#GS3 went back into the snow today. This time, he picked some up, squeezed it and dropped it, then said “cool”.
It isn’t as deep today, and even though it is still cold, it isn’t as cold as it was yesterday.
I told #sonTwo to get a stick and break the icicles that are hanging from the roof, so no one is injured by a piece of falling ice. Though I imagine the roof also has ice on it that could slide off.
#sonTwo and #Daddy_A have both been talking to their family doctors and were told to delay receiving the #COVID-19 vaccine until additional data is available from those vaccinated.
I'm not pleased that doctors are telling my boys not to get the vaccines (yet). I do realize that we have no history of mRNA vaccines, and that we only have a year of even knowing about this virus, so no long-term studies showing safety.
But both of them are heavy. One had asthma and a lung infection when he was younger.
#sonTwo and #GS3 called to #videochat. The child told me about animals in his book, but the only words I understood were "animals", "cat", "cow", and "dog dog".
#sonTwo is taking the younger dog to his in-laws. She's too active (large breed, so she's still growing, even though she's bigger than the other dog) and too chew-happy ... tries to chew on everything, including people.
The in-laws live in a warmer climate and have a larger back yard, so she can spend more time outdoors, chewing to her heart's content.
Entire family has been sick for a few days. He and #GS3 have gotten over it, but my daughter-in-law still has lingering symptoms.
The younger dog is too active and to chew-oriented, so he's going to take her to the in-laws' home. If she calms down when she's older (and the boys are old enough to exercise some authority over her), maybe she can return.
GS3 has discovered Curious George. During their sick time, he watched episode after episode of the show.
GS3 was given a coloring book, but no one knew it also had stickers. He's now put several stickers on the inside of the front door.
I sent him a little hoodie. sonTwo tells me he will let him wear it around the house when temperatures are cool, but not going into a public place.
I did alert #sonTwo, but since the family is all sick, they can’t go to a shelter anyway. #GS1 and #GS2 are also near the storms, but telling them to make sure their cell phones get emergency alerts is more than I can expect them to do. (Twenty-somethings.)
#sonTwo used to put father-son days on my calendar, so he and his younger brother #Daddy_A could get focused time.
#sonOne used to call me at work to ask "When am I going to see you again?" ... needless to say, I still think productivity is important, but give the people in your life some regular time that is not shared with work of any kind.
Considering going cellphone free. I'm used to near-daily calls with #sonTwo, but that hasn't been happening lately. An occasional call with someone I know from work isn't worth paying a cellular service plan.
Good morning. It is 2021-01-09 16:50 UTC (08:50 PST). I’ve finished today’s #YoCo ( #yogurt and #coffee ) and have planned a day of relaxation.
I’m probably anticipating too strongly, but today’s schedule includes: * phone call with #Daddy_A and #Little_Boy_A and possibly playing a game together * videochat with brother and his wife + other family members * #videochat with #sonTwo and #GS3 * phone call with #faveNephew * drawing something to send to #GD1 and #GD2 ... the younger granddaughter hasn’t been sending me any of her animations recently.
Years ago, when #sonTwo started taking Photography courses at the local college, I stood up a site for him using "Gallery 2". We had a bunch of plugins, including a bridge from G2 to a regular CMS, so he could use his main site for authentication on his photo gallery. Then came G3, which never had the same functionality. We tried "Coppermine Photo Gallery" (CPG), and a few more, eventually settling on Koken.
Over time, I was concerned about the lack of continuing security patches, so we pulled it down.
While he's off work for the next few months, he's going to try to do more photography , and he's looking to host his work again. I'd like to be able to suggest something that isn't Flickr / 500px or other #corpocentric site.
Federation is not needed, as he's looking mostly for a way to market his work and maybe sell a few prints. I suggested that he look at #PixelFed, but I don't know enough about it to even be sure it could meet his needs. I don't know if his hosting is capable of something like #MediaGobllin (Python based), but that project is still awakening from a long hibernation.
Anyone have knowledge of a self-hostable PHP based photo gallery?
Now that I’m not talking to #sonTwo on the phone every day, I really don’t see a reason to keep it ... at least not in the present form. Maybe I can use one of those $25-$35/month prepaid plans.
I know Mark, S, K, and Kenny like to talk for three hours at a time, but if I’m on a plan with fewer minutes, they’ll just have to adjust.
They're talking about game consoles vs computer games.
I'm in favor of game consoles, simply because I can't play a game without feeling guilt ("I should be working") on a regular computer. Not that I play games very much these days.
I use my Nintendo #Switch so rarely, that I think it is time to send it to #sonTwo to save it for #GS3. I just don't enjoy playing anything on it for more than about ten minutes.
#sonTwo tells me he has some #XRP, so he's going to try to change it to #Monero ( #XMR ). The thing with XMR is that was the currency that people were infecting other people's servers and even cellphones with miners to try and obtain. It tainted my view of Monero.
I still haven't found a cryptocurrency I feel comfortable with enough to buy, but XMR is definitely not likely to be the first.
But I’m not pretending that I can time the market, so I’m not looking to buy something that will rise high enough to make me a millionaire. I’m looking at them as a medium of exchange, a means to facilitate purchases and sales. At this point, I’m not looking at them as a store of value, and certainly not as an investment.
Despite my insistence in conversations with #sonTwo that he should likewise consider cryptocurrency only as a means to purchase things, his father-in-law has been reading about sky-high #BTC prices and is putting up a small amount of money to get started investing in #cryptocurrency.
“... Crypto Rating Council, an organization launched last year to provide some clarity on which digital assets might resemble securities. The project assessed that XRP more closely resembles a security than a non-security, giving the asset a score of 4 out of 5 (5 being a clear security). The scores are not meant to serve as legal advice but represent member exchanges’ views on certain digital assets.”
@guizzy @moon@shitposter.club I guess I should pay more attention to some of these cryptocurrency things. #sonTwo's father-in-law gave him some funds to buy #BTC and #ETH.
