#Excel struggles to do things that #QuattroPro and #Lotus did in the #1990s. I don't use #LibreOffice often, but I'm pretty sure the same things are easily doable there, too. -

Last night after work, I stopped to do laundry. The laundromat had a radio playing. #KRTH-101 used to be oldies from the late #1950s through the #1960s to the early #1970s (since they changed to that format around 1974), so I was very surprised when everything I heard appeared to be from the late 1970s through the #1980s to early #1990s.
I liked the music, but it wasn't the K-Earth I used to listen to. It felt like the old K-Earth was lost. -

Dang. Was this really 28 years ago? It doesn't seem like it was that far back when I first heard this.

A couple of things I've heard !Smalltalk people say killed their market:
1. Smalltalk's image-based system didn't mesh well with OS filesystems;
2. #Smalltalk vendor turmoil and their high pricing.
(I wasn't even aware of the language's existence until the late #1990s. I took numerous programming courses over the years, but I never heard ST mentioned until another student mentioned it in a #Java course. )

Personally, I never liked #IRC, so I quickly stopped using it back in the late #1990s. Sometime in the 2000s or 2010s, I started to use #SILC (through their CLI client based on the "irssi" IRC client), and only through SILC did I learn to tolerate IRC. Today, I almost always use IRC through bridges to #Matrix or #XMPP MUCs.
And even though I usually have multiple terminal windows open on my desktop, I only use GUI IRC clients.In conversation from web permalink
